Australasian Safari – Podium

Don McGrath’s CPW/SP Tools/KTM Australia team had an amazing week at Safari with Ben Grabham (1st) Todd Smith (2nd) and Matt Fish (3rd) taking the podium in 2010. Rob Lang also finished 7th outright and 3rd in class (450cc production) while Heath Young finished 12 outright and 1st in class (250cc production).

Celebrations carried on long into the night followed by the long drive back to Bunbury the next day.

Myself and a few boys visited Ivan Erceg today and he is recovering well in RPH. He has suffered 8 broken ribs, a broken scapula and shoulder blade. He is already talking about Safari 2011!!! His story was quite amazing. Having made a navigation error, he got back on track and what he said seemed like a small rut, he was soon on the ground. Winded and short of breath, he struggled to his feet. He knew something was wrong with his shoulder when he tried to pick the bike up, but he continued to mount the bike and ride on. Thinking there was not too long to the end of the stage, he was intent of getting out of the stage, but realised it was more serious when he started coughing up blood. In true gutsy Erceg style, he rode about 30km after the crash, before succumbing to the realisation and calling in the chopper for assistance. He was airlited out to RPH that evening and was in ICU for a number of days. His main concern which he stated today was the fact that he was in hospital while all of us were on safari enjoying ourselves!!!

Here are the CPW/SP Tools/KTM Australia boys enjoying their time on the podium.

Grabham uses his podium experience to dominate Fish and Smith……..

……and claims victory by raising the champers bottle!!

  1. Great photos and narration Jamie. Congrats to you on keeping your followers informed throughout the week. Don’s team organisation and rider support is now rewarded and he deserves the accolades. I can relate to Ivans dissappointment at not sharing the after-party – i wish that i was there celebrating too. It really was an amazing effort by all the riders. Congrats to all.
